My friend Danika has a new store up and an amazing amount of press and features on her next level jewelry.  She made MNDR some brain frying pieces to wear on stage and about town.  Many people have asked where they could find more of her stuff and well….the internet.  Check out her stuff click here. New U.B.C.L. for C.L.U.B.

Posted in Making MNDR Songs on June 6th, 2010 by MNDR

So Peter Wade has been suggesting to use a Shepards Tone somewhere in our music since our first day writing music together.  A Shepard tone, named after Roger Shepard, is a sound consisting of a superposition of sine waves separated by octaves. When played with the base pitch of the tone moving upwards or downwards, it is referred to as the Shepard scale. This creates the auditory illusion of a tone that continually ascends or descends in pitch, yet which ultimately seems to get no higher or lower.[1]

The U.B.C.L. (C.L.U.B.) hook on that record has always sort of dissatisfied us since we first made it.  It seemed like we didn’t try hard enough to come up with a distinctive vocal treatment.  So recently, Peter Wade put into place a Shepard’s Tone patch and inserted the vocals to create an ever ascending and descending effect to the vocals.  Very helium mushrooms.  It took a lot of concentration and focus to create this patch, but I think we got something very new for vocal treatment.

Here is what it looks like as a patch in ProTools.  So those of you who have the original version of C.L.U.B., get ready to hear an updated version.

These Are Powers/Lemonade Tour Re-Cap

Posted in MNDR tour on April 2nd, 2010 by MNDR

This tour was really amazing and what I like to call “family style” and formally named TEEN YOGA TOUR! Lemonade are old friends of mine from SF and These Are Powers are ancient bros from tour past.  Lemonade and These Are Powers traded off headlining with MNDR as the opener.  We played all ages shows for the most part along with one drunk show.

Lemonade really killed it every night with their distinct brand of Soca/Tropical dance music.  These Are Powers obviously killed it ever night with their Timbaland inspired beats/Throbbing Gristle dissonance and absolute raw high energy live show.  Certainly one of the best live bands touring.

Again, These Are Powers jumped in into their gang by letting me ride in their tour van.  We plugged in our laptops, made beats through the car stereo, and saw a lot more of Alabama than expected.  Solidarity forever!  Best shows were at Jesus Camp in Baltimore (obviously) and 529 in Atlanta.

This is the only picture I can post to paint the picture of this tour.

Yacht Tour Re-Cap

Posted in MNDR tour on April 2nd, 2010 by MNDR

So I am back from a 5 week stint on the road.

First half of the tour was with the outstanding and uncompromising music of Yacht. The brainchild of two “get free” thinkers. Along side their awesomeness was Bobby Birdman(guitar/bass/background vox) and Jeffrey Jerusalem (drums). The bill was amazing with Bobby Birdman opening every show. These amazing folks took me into their van and into their arms and awesome lifestyle choices.
I think our collective best show was in Toronto at Wrongbar. The show was sold out and the crowd was ready for everything. People were wasted and happy. I got to DJ before Yacht and also ate some really killer sushi.  My second favorite show was at Bowery Ballroom…well actually Chicago was killer.  All of the shows were amazing.

Yacht is on tour now with LCD Soundsystem throughout Europe!  Go and see them.  Also I grabbed these photos from the Brooklyn Vegan write up of the Bowery show.  All photos taken by Zach Stern .

These Are Powers Candyman 12′ out on RVNG INT’L

Posted in Bands, MNDR on March 1st, 2010 by MNDR

These Are Powers Candyman 12′ ep is out now on RVNG Int’l. My favorite track is World Class People and also the Teengirl Fantasy World Class People remix.  MNDR had the major honor of playing the ep release along side a face melting set by Blondes at CoCo66 (best bar live music venue in all of NYC).  The show was absolutely amazing.  There was a crazy fireworks type lighting event that occurred throughout the entire show along with an audience made of pure electricity.

Here is the ep.  It is available via RVNG Int’l website.  This is an essential 2010 spin for any music lover/dj.

New Song Working Title–Undecided

Posted in Making MNDR Songs on February 3rd, 2010 by MNDR

Have a new song I am very excited about.  Peter and I began the song in an awesome manner.  We both just stopped talking and started to make beats.  They were both in the right vein.  So we took my beats and ran it through this ipod speaker thing.
