Mixpak Records–Dre Skull

Posted in LABELS on December 3rd, 2009 by MNDR

It is time that everyone starts listening up to Mixpak Records.  This is NYC based DJ Dre Skull’s label.  He has consistantly put out solid 12 inches varying from idiosyncratic dance 12 inches, to New Orleans Sissy bounce veterans, to Vybz Kartel and Sizzla.

Dre Skull is seriously making some taste making 12 inches and is about to make a huge gash into culture flow.

Buy his shit here and check out his t-shirts on the online store because they are absolutely devestating.

Here is a killer Dre Skull video.

The Trilogy is Complete — Dre Skull and Juiceboxxx

Posted in LABELS on December 1st, 2009 by MNDR

I have been a huge fan of this triology collaboration between Dre Skull and Juiceboxxx series put out by Vicious Pop, an awesome dance label out of Milewaukee.  RESPECT©Juiceboxxx.  Everytime I play these records while DJ’ing people really lose their shit.  It is unreal and a no-fail.  Also, Vicious Pop must have the best fucking distro of all time because no matter if I am at Grammaphone in Chicago or some weird book/record stores in LA, I find these records.

Variation Repition–MNDR using SOUND TOYS FILTER

Posted in LABELS, Making MNDR Songs on August 18th, 2009 by MNDR

I am making MNDR dance 12 inches right now.  I can’t stop.  After playing shows and hanging with my friends Eats Tapes I just dove back into making techno or techno influenced records.  Feels like a bath of spaghetti.

This new record is titled Variation Repition.  All of the synth work for this record was made on my Sound Lab Suitcase Synth.  I made the initial beat and then ran a signal out to the CV Gate on the Soundlab in order to trigger it in sequence.  I also made some different keyboard midi sequences and than sent those signals out to the synth in order to make different keyboard leads.

I bounced the Soundlab synth stems and then ran them through this filter pluggin made by Sound Toys called Filter Freak.  This is hands down the best sounding and most unique filter pluggin I have heard or used.

0th on CNET

Posted in Bands, Gear, LABELS, Shows on July 19th, 2009 by MNDR

My art band 0th played on July 15th at The Lab in SF for Mission Creek Music Festival.  This time JapJap was in Las Vegas so both JapJap and myself MNDR skyped in for the show.  The Lab is a space for multi-media art and proved to be an excellent venue for 0th.

Unannounced to us, CNET had heard wind of our skype performances and were interested in doing a piece about 0th on CNET.  So they interviewed Statue of Liberty and Gloat about the set up and the mission of the project.  For this performance JapJap and myself choreographed movements for the visual aspects of the show, along with contributing live synth, samplers, and singing.  Gloat played drums, MAX MSP, brought her robots, clarinet, and sang.  Statue of Liberty played violin, sang, and also performance art.  They smashed LEDS inside of glass and also contributed to movement.  The audio always turns out better than expected thanks to our friend Wobbly.  Here is the CNET permalink along with a screen shot of the produced piece on CNET.

0th CNETWe also uploaded the entire performance on youtube.

USAISAMONSTER LAST SHOW TODAY @MARKET HOTEL IN BUSHWICK

Posted in Bands, LABELS on May 9th, 2009 by MNDR

An end to one of the greatest bands of absolute mind shredding psych rock and one of my favorites from Load Records. One of things I love about Usaisamonster are their lyrics. I think their band name says it as far as their politics go. I saw every show they played in Oakland, Ca and I feel lucky to catch their last show. Also Juiceboxxx is playing so I am way psyched.
