C.L.U.B. lyrics Accomplished Song Finished!

C.L.U.B. is done and printed!

OK so I went for it…
The song is about Oakland/SF and all of my friends and how we like to party. So lame to write about partying…way over done…but it is a song about the intricate interactions within friends. Like being in a cult.
I just imagined all of us meeting at a friends house and there is always a wild card in there, like new kid no one’s met, or some kid from Belgium, some Chicago person…who knows.
Wine bottles laying everywhere, Tranny’s trying on my friend Liza’s (from awesome band BRIDEZSF) clothes, furs and high heels, sunglasses on.
Maybe some people have been taking LSD and are just in a weird times mood. Whatever.

So I don’t really like to go out until 11 or midnight, so generally by then everyone is super sideways.

We go out and walk to parties, bars, shows,…and the story is that one of us finds some young cupcake and is just going to take them on a decadent journey. Sort of like they are our captive prisoner….take this, come here, you lost your wallet…who cares…where are you keys…don’t know…doesn’t matter.

Basically a song about all night out with friends and capturing others.

C.L.U.B. LYRICS

Posted in Making MNDR Songs on February 21st, 2009 by MNDR

Ok so I am working on the lyrics for C.L.U.B. I am not going to be shy about explaining this.

I like to use Brian Eno’s Oblique Sound Strategies of just singing nonsense words until words pop out.  Generally that yields tracks like Kings Lead Hats off of Brian Eno’s Before and After Science. Just cuckoo surrealist lyrics.
Peter is pushing me to tell a story.
I am resisting….or just really timid???!!!?

C.L.U.B. Verse’s

Verse vocals re-worked. Turned out great! I am really psyched on them. This song is turning into something that I would actually like to preform….which wasn’t the original intent.
Working with Peter Wade is mysteriously turning out to be an amazing collaboration team.
See what happens.

C.L.U.B. Chorus—Arpeggiation

Posted in Making MNDR Songs, Uncategorized on February 8th, 2009 by MNDR

Ok so trying to really write a pop song. Like just one that flows through everyone…connects everyone.  Just like a fuck it type of pop song. Those chorus’s have to soar!

So Peter and I were working on the chorus and I was like it might be cool to put in an Arp Omni with an arrpeggiated LFO. We were screwing around with some soft synths in ProTools and I think we even clocked the Yamaha CS15 (one of my true favorites) to Pro Tools. But it just sounded absolutely too predictable.

I have been really super into the midi pluggins in LIVE. I use them on my demos a lot. They have a variety of arpeggiation pluggins for midi tracks. So I suggested we try and mess with LIVE. I have never tried to use ReWire, but it just worked? When has that happened.
So Peter and I ran Live inside of Protools and recorded a bunch of takes with me adjusting the gate on the arpeggiation pluggin.
It turned out fucking sweet. We even used a Live synth.
totally worked out.
